The sea enriches us in our fast-changing lives

However,

(Subtitles) The Barren ground expands 1,200ha every year

The nursery ground of fish and shellfish disappears due to the barren ground phenomenon occurring in the contaminated sea and the indiscreet fishing destroys the marine ecosystem

(Subtitles) Rapid decrease in the coastal and offshore fisheries production levels(1986yr 1,730, 2016yr 910, 2017yr 930)

The destruction of marine ecosystem leads to the decline of fisheries resources, threatening our future.

The Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, FIRA forms fisheries resources and recovers the health of sea through preservation and continuous management.

(Subtitles) Marine Forestation, Marine Ranching, Managing Fisheries Seeds, Operaing Total Allowable Catch(TAC)

The headquarter in Gijang, Busan and 4 branches and 6 centers are placed in the major coastal regions of Korea. All of the places have instruments that can systematically manage the fisheries resources.

In addition, professional researchers at the agency have secured the driving force of future growth by constructing the technology basis of fisheries resources formation and building their capabilities.

We protect the future of sea and people by restoring the marine ecosystem and recovering the fisheries resources.

(Subtitles) Enrich Sea- Marine Forest, Marine Ranching

(Subtitles) Marine Forest-Restoration of marine ecosystem by planting algae

The marine ecosystem is getting worse and worse due to the combined factors such as climate change and contamination of the sea. 

(Subtitles) Marine Gardening Day(National Memorial Day that designated first in the world) - Day to plant algae in the sea(May 10th) Enacted and implemented in Feburary, 2013(National Memorial Day)

Every 10th of May is the marine gardening day, that encourages people to plant algae in the blue sea to form rich marine forest 

The marine gardening day is a national memorial day to emphasize the importance of marine ecosystem and the severity of barren ground and form and keep the marine forest in the interest of public.

Sea where marine forest is formed begins to become blue again. New marine lives visit marine forest. Marine forest gets richer and provides more benefits to the people.

(Subtitles) Main Functions of Marine Forest - 1. Provides nursery ground for marine living resources, 2. Contribute to reducing Greenhouse Gas, 3. Bioenergy Resources, 
4. Purify the Contaminated Substance, 5. Healthy Food, 6. Provide useful and functional

(Subtitles) Marine Ranching - Create spawning & nursery ground for marine lives by deploying artificial reefs underwater

We also set up marine ranching in the sea and create proper environment for the marine life.

Then, marine lives come back, lay eggs and habitat so it recover the destroyed ecosystem.

By utilizing marine forest and marine ranching, we maintain a rich ecosystem that prevents marine resources from being depleted 
and builds the sustainable basis for marine life.

Our agency manages the fisheries seeds systematically to produce better quality fisheries products.

Formation of Natural Spawning Ground, Seeking Species as the Strategic Resources

The certification system of released fisheries seeds that releases the only certified seeds into the sea can secure the genetic diversities to form a healthy marine ecosystem.

(Subtitles) TAC: Total Allowable Catch(A system to manage resources that set limits on catching targeted fisheries in annual basies, 11specie sincluding)

As the diversities of marine life are secured, we restrict the annual allowable catch through TAC system.  

TAC observers conduct the biological researches such as body length check and the catches of the targeted marine species in 118 designated fish landing sites. This is how the fisheries resources can be preserved.

We manage fisheries resources designating the species to be protected and regulating the catch in preparation for the decline of fisheries resources.

We also analyze the habitat environments and forming the spawning & nursery ground of fisheries resources. These efforts lead to income increase of local fishers and fishing village and generate economic effects.

Also, we construct the networks through the cooperative projects with international organizations and foreign countries and are communicating with the world sharing the specialized technologies. 

In addition, we educate children the importance of fisheries resources and marine ecosystem maintenance by operating the various ecological experience program so that prepares for the future of fisheries resources management.
